The Mutant Suspension Squad project was born in Milan, Italy, in 2004, from a group of old friends. Body art lovers and experimenters, undergound scene goers, wanderers and travellers, we have always been looking for inspiring emotions, to entertain at parties with fire shows and coreographies. After attending the first Italian Suscon, we learnt important facts about body suspension and after practicing it we decided to try and put on stage this ancient rituals in a theatrical way in a show for a rave party in Milan. While a grindcore band was playing we performed flying above the stage; then during several art exhibitions we arranged installations using our own bodies. These performances have been acclaimed by the public with enthusiasm and curiosity, giving the kick for the birth of the project New Species, a cooperation of performers and djs. Together we promote our shows, always unique, adapting to spaces and location provided. Many are the recurring elements: music, body suspension and pulling, together with several fachirism aspects such as fire playing, branding and scarifications. We pass on strong emotions to the public which varies and is more and more interested in us.
This led us to be guests at the Naples Tattoo Expo, to participate in Bilbao Tattoo Ink Fusion, in Spain, holding a demonstration of many peculiar suspensions, and to participate in the A.P.T.P.I. International Conference in Milan. We have also been the opening show for the performance of Havve Fjell and his Pain Solution Team, demonstrating pulling techniques. Concerning filmography, we took part to the realization of Bloody Sin, the first glam horror movie in the world, the third work by the director Domiziano Cristofaro together with Ruggero Deodato, the director of Cannibal Holocaust.
Every year we are in the A.P.T.P.I. SUSPENSION TEAM for the Italian Suscon, working with international artists, performers and body modifiers, always present for the most important italian meeting about suspensions and pulling. Occasionally we organize workshops to let people know and try suspensions for the first time or for those who already tried it.
